Q-and-A with 4 Rivers Founder John Rivers

 

“John Rivers is a living legend in the BBQ business — not just for the popularity of his 4 Rivers Smokehouse restaurants, known for serving smoked brisket, but for the ‘BBQ Ministry’ serving thousands of people in need that took him from president of a billion-dollar healthcare operation to carving meats in his first tiny location on Fairbanks Avenue in 2009. His story is inspirational and captivating, his warmth and devotion very genuine. We met at the eclectic corporate offices in Winter Park where the delicious smell of BBQ welcomes visitors. The largest space is a test kitchen where Rivers often cooks. He and his wife Monica have two children, both attending FSU. Rivers and his wife oversee the 4R Foundation, and Rivers has written a cookbook in addition to expanding the 4 Rivers brand into retail and manufacturing divisions.”
